A Case for Choir

I think I have seen as many churches get rid of choir as we’ve seen articles bemoaning the loss of choir in modern worship. I believe we have seen a decline in singing in our Western churches and I believe maintaining a choir can help turn around this trend. Here is a list some of the virtues of maintaining choir:
  1. Choir models worship and praise. Worship needs to be modeled in church and what better way to help your congregation than with an expressive choir.
  2. Choir promotes congregational singing. Well rehearsed voices can encourage timid congregations and give confidence in lyrics and songs.
  3. Choir promotes consistent worship attendance. Think about it, if you add even a 30 voice choir, those participates fill a critical role and express more ownership in the worship service. Also, choir tends to bring family and friends with them.
