The Tones of Drive

IMG_0773As guitarists, we are always concerned with great tone. That was no exception in the studio when we were recording. Other than using a basic studio

compressors, pro tools delays, and a myriad of guitars, the guitar tones on the album, Sunlight, come from a Bogner Ubershall and a 1970’s Marshall Cab with Blackface speakers.

Driving…

For the song, “Drive,” we used the Bogner Uberschall as the base overdrive tones. This is fairly lightly saturated gain to give some clarity to the guitar chords, especially in the chorus.

For the solo, I used a Pete Cornish G2 pedal through the Clean side of the Uberschall.

In fact, any time a pedal is on at any point on the record, we used the clean side of the Uberschall.

The G2 is a secret weapon of sorts as it really sings with this over the top distortion type fuzz. Also, every so often you will hear a 1954 Martin acoustic guitar strumming along too.
