There we’re several iPhone apps that Rocky and I used to stay in touch and stay creative organizing the project. I realize there are a myriad of music apps out there that some of you may find more useful than what I’ve listed here, but these are the actual apps that we used for the project.
Evernote: Evernote is a real no brainier when it comes to lyric organization. There were several songs that had a few lyric rewrites and with the Evernote’s highly collaborative features, Rocky and I were able to share things very quickly, often completing work simultaneously in different locations.
2)
Fourtrack: This is a app that I wish I had in high school! It is a true to life four track recorder that uses the iPhone’s built in microphone. You can overdub using the headphones as a monitor and do a mix down, to keep going. Very powerful. I recorded several song demos on this.
3)
B-rhymes is a stellar rhyming dictionary that is free! excellent for researching the multiple syllable rhymes and near rhymes.
4)
Songwriter LE helps you organize song material. Sharable via dropbox, this app not only helps the arrangement of lyrics and sections of songs, it gives you cool phrase and song ideas if you need a quick songwriting practice session. It also has a full rhyming dictionary as well.
5)
Soundcloud is technically a social networking app, but I found that if I’m humming a lyrical or melodic idea and I need a quick way to record the audio, this is what I use. Instantly my audio is recorded and then backed up to the Soundcloud website where it either is privately available to me later or publicly available to my followers. I probably used this app the most for the record. In fact, the verse melody for the song Fireflies I recorded in the school parking lot after dropping my daughter off at kindergarten.
I’ve found these apps super useful, what apps do you use for music production or songwriting?
