Its been about two weeks since the last note was recorded on the record. We intentionally built in a break of sorts to give our ears a rest before mixing. What is mixing you ask? Mixing is the fine art of adjusting every element of the music so that everything exists in the space of the song equally. From the volume level of vocals, to the frequency of the kick drum, to the timing of the hand claps every minute detail is addressed to sound perfect. In fact, the bane of most albums really is a bad mix. Sometimes the problem not allotting enough time to mix; rushing it. Sometimes its mixing the song too long; over-thinking it. Whatever the problems arise, they are unique to that particular song and recording. This is a highly subjective art form and in the end, it either sounds right or it does not. There is no middle ground. So, we will take our time, but not too long.
